Davenport's abandoned pier

The Davenport pier was built in the 1860's to support
Captain John Davenport's whaling business

Davenport soon gave up whaling when he realized he could
make more money shipping cheese and lumber to San Francisco from the pier.
The pier was abandoned in 1880.

Waves persist their relentless assault on the pier
